How I Tricked My Kid into Eating Healthy (And He Loved It)

February 11, 20254 min read

When we first started our healing journey, I felt like I was gearing up for war—me vs. my sugar-addicted, carb-loving, snack-demanding toddler. And let’s be real, if you’ve ever tried to get a kid to swap out their beloved sweets for a plate of steamed broccoli, you know exactly what I mean.

Like most kids, my son craved sugar. And not just in a “can I have a cookie?” kind of way, but in a full-blown sugar gremlin meltdown if he didn’t get something sweet. His little body was addicted to the quick energy, but I knew that sugar rollercoaster wasn’t doing him any favors.

So, what did I do? I schemed. I became a master of deception, a kitchen ninja, a health food illusionist. If he was going to demand sweets, I was going to make them work for us, not against us.

And guess what? Bananas became my best friend.

The Banana Hack That Changed Everything

Bananas were one of the few fruits my son didn’t get picky about. He loved them. And while I was over here secretly stuffing his smoothies with gut-healing powders and sneaking organ meats into his spaghetti sauce (yes, really), I realized I needed to create a treat he would actually love without a fight.

And what’s better than a Reese’s cup? I mean, really—chocolate + peanut butter is elite. But have you seen those ingredients?!

• Corn syrup solids (why tho?)

• Artificial flavorings (no thanks)

• Hydrogenated oils (hard pass)

Nope. Not in this house.

So, we made our own version—but better. Cleaner. Actually healing. And dare I say… more delicious than the store-bought stuff.

The Secret to the Perfect Chocolate Banana Cups

I wasn’t just going to replace junk with less junk. I wanted this to be nutrient-dense, loaded with good fats, minerals, and gut-supporting goodness. So here’s how we leveled up:

Homemade Greek yogurt from raw milk we get from Humphrey Farms (because the store-bought stuff is basically sugar and thickeners)

Raw local honey from the same farm (because, hello, immune support!)

Organic Justin’s peanut butter (no inflammatory oils, just pure peanut goodness)

Clean chocolate chips (no soy lecithin, no weird fillers)

Redmond’s sea salt for minerals (because minerals = essential for detox and balance)

Unsweetened coconut flakes for extra gut-healing benefits

And boom. A treat that actually nourishes, but still tastes like something straight out of a candy aisle.

The Recipe: Healthy Chocolate Banana Nut Butter Cups

Ingredients:

• 3 organic bananas, sliced

• ¾ cup clean chocolate chips

• ½ teaspoon coconut oil

• ½ cup homemade Greek yogurt (or the cleanest you can find)

• 2 tablespoons organic Justin’s peanut butter (or any nut butter)

• 1 teaspoon raw local honey

• Redmond’s sea salt (for topping)

• Unsweetened coconut flakes (for topping)

Instructions:

1. Slice & Mix

• Slice bananas into even rounds and set aside.

• In a small bowl, mix peanut butter, Greek yogurt, and raw honey until smooth.

2. Melt the Chocolate

• In a saucepan or microwave, melt the chocolate chips with coconut oil in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.

3. Assemble Like a Candy-Making Genius

• Line a muffin tin with silicone or paper liners.

• Spoon a small amount of melted chocolate into each muffin cup—just enough to coat the bottom.

• Place a banana slice on top of the chocolate.

• Add a dollop of the peanut butter and Greek yogurt mixture over the banana.

• Cover with another layer of melted chocolate to seal everything in.

4. Top & Freeze

• Sprinkle half of the cups with Redmond’s sea salt and the other half with unsweetened coconut flakes.

• Pop them in the freezer for at least 30 minutes or until the chocolate hardens.

5. Devour!

• Take them out, let them sit for a couple of minutes, and enjoy!

Why These Chocolate Banana Cups Are a Total Win

• They actually taste like candy. (My son had no clue they were secretly packed with probiotics, minerals, and healthy fats.)

• They’re easy to make. (No baking. No complicated steps. Just mix, layer, and freeze.)

• They’re a mom hack disguised as dessert. (Because sometimes, you just have to outsmart your kids.)

• They’re packed with healing foods. (No sugar crashes, no processed junk, just real, nourishing ingredients.)

Now, my son asks for these instead of store-bought candy. And honestly? I feel like I cracked the code.

Final Mom Hack: Keep These Stocked in Your Freezer

If you have a picky eater, a kid who loves sweets, or even yourself (because let’s be real, these are addicting), keep a batch of these in the freezer at all times. When your kid is begging for candy, hand them one of these instead.

They’ll think they’re getting a treat.

You’ll know they’re getting real nourishment.

That’s what I call a win-win.

If you try these, let me know—did your kids fall for it like mine did? Or better yet… did YOU fall for it, too?

I’ll teach you how to detox your kids safely, rebuild their health, and reclaim the vibrant, thriving child you know is in there. Let’s make kids healthy again—together.
